Giselle - A NZ illustrator who has done school journals before. Has a nice simple style with interesting lineart and a lot of expression, and bright but natural looking colours
Chris Riddell / Sketchbook / Children's book illustration - One of my favourite illustrators as a child (and still now), most of his work is detailed, line based, sometimes with watercolour. Does work for all ages but mostly children's lit. A lot of exaggeration of character

Phoebe Morris - Although her stuff is not so much aimed at young kids (or at least is more of an all ages thing?) the simple character designs are nice and it's a clean, bright style with a traditional feel from the pencilly lines

Katie O'Neill - has a very cute style that appeals to all ages. Simple and lineless and bright

Ceri Giddens - not necessarily aimed at children, but again, has a cute bright style that could appeal to kids

Cory Godbey - I really love his soft linework which flows and has a lot of movement. In general a style more suited to the fantasy genre
This Children's book illustration website has links to a few.
I had a quick look at some books in Gordon Harris;
100 Great Picture Books is interesting, and has a lot of picture books from last century up until 2013
